What a rare find!

Inky Elephant is one of my all-time favorites! Back in 2012, when I first began playing with alcohol inks, I took a series of class from the wonderful Karen Walker.

After a few classes, I had an idea. My daughter Betsy visited Africa and came home with an absolute love of elephants. She lined her apartment with black and white photos of these gorgeous creatures and I knew that for her 40th birthday, I’d paint her an elephant (that was 11 years ago!). With Karen’s encouragement, I went for it and while I’ve only painted a few animals, the ones that I did create are real treasures.

While Inky Elephant is not my daughter’s 40th birthday present, it is one of only two elephant paintings that I created during my entire exploration with alcohol ink.

Alcohol inks are dye-based and fade over time if exposed to direct sunlight. It is best to display your art away from direct UV light to avoid any chance of fading. Alcohol ink art should never be hung in direct sunlight. None of my paintings have faded over the years and this is due to making sure they were never exposed to direct light.
